So it looks like certain politicians are suggesting we kill the CBC yet again, and while I’ve signed petitions in the past, I’m getting quite frustrated that they keep trying. I’m hoping we can show enough support to demonstrate that focusing on this is a waste of time and that they should focus on other aspects of tightening up our government, like figuring out why they have to spend $1.3MM on cab fares. I run a business and know that sometimes you have to take taxis, but that level of excess would be the kind of thing I’d be speaking to my staff about.
CBC is the thread that has bound Canada for me in the various places I’ve lived/worked – urban, rural, remote and abroad – no matter where I was there was this sense of belonging to our giant nation, of commonality to others in equally far-flung locations as Canadians. Our sense of humour, our stories, our relationship to our neighbours and the world. I’m hard pressed to think of anything else that has as deep and as cross cutting a presence as the CBC for our national identity.
